It is hard enough when you can’t make ends meet and pay your bills, but when creditors are calling every day, it can cause even more stress. As a debtor, you owe your creditor money, which is why they will call and try to get you to pay what you owe. Although these people have the right to call you, there are some things they simply are not allowed to do when they wish to make contact.
When a creditor is attempting to collect a debt, they cannot do the following:
- Contact you at your place of employment.
- Contact you at odd or unreasonable hours.
- Contact you after you have asked them not to.
- Call consistently with the intent to harass or annoy you.
Creditors calling you every day can be quite annoying, especially if you do not have the money to pay the bills they are contacting you about and aren’t sure what to do. You may not be sure how to handle creditors when they call, but you have rights and do not have to deal with certain actions that they may take when they are trying to collect a debt. If you have questions about your rights and the rights of creditors, you can contact an attorney for assistance.
